Why everyone should film their lifts

The internet is full of workout videos, good ones, and bad ones, of which we can all learn a lot. Weightlifting pages that post clips of pro weightlifters' performances are good for figuring out right lifting techniques. One great one is Hookgrip's Instagram or Youtube page which have countless of slow motion videos of lifts.

While watching others perform teaches you many things, seeing your own performances on video is even a better learning experience. Even for an experienced coach trying to explain a correct lifting technique only with words is more challenging than it sounds, because you can't see yourself what you are doing wrong. But with the help of an illustrative video, the task turns suddenly rather simple. For some reason, a movement can look very different than performing it feels like. It is surprisingly eye-opening to see your snatch for the first time with your own eyes.

Recording all your workouts is not necessary, but at least for olympic lifts, and other lifts you might find it helpful. The best scenario is to get your coach's feedback supported by a video. If you happen to train alone, it gives you the opportunity to get advice afterward. You can do it simply using your phone's or tablet's camera, but there also exists several apps created just for this.

You might find Coach's eye useful as it shows the movement in slow motion if wanted, and your coach can easily send the videos to your email. Another app that seems interesting, is BarSense. It literally draws the path the bar makes when you perform a lift, so you should see for example how close to your body the bar moves when you perform a clean.

Adding videos on WODconnect

Adding a video to an existing workout as a comment is really easy. Just copy & paste your video's Youtube link to the text field. The video will be saved in your workout history. You will see your video when clicking the corresponding date from the history.

That's it! Take advantage of this possibility and take your lifting technique to next level. Note that you don't need to post your videos to Youtube publicly as there's an option to download videos privately.
